荷兰Elsevier Science 公司出版的期刊是国际公认的高水平的学术期刊，大多数都被SCI、EI所收录，属国际核心期刊。该公司近几年已经与Pergamon、North Holland、Excerpt Medica 等著名出版社合并，将其出版的1100多种期刊全部数字化，通过网络向用户提供服务。国内在清华图书馆和上海交通大学图书馆设有两个镜像服务器，通过校园网提供95年以来Elsevier公司1560余种电子期刊全文数据库即：ScienceDirect OnSite（SDOS）的服务。
该数据库涉及数学、物理、化学、天文学、医学、生命科学、商业及经济管理、计算机科学、工程技术、能源科学、环境科学、材料科学等。
Description
The Journal publishes papers on the fundamentals of chemical engineering, including applications of biology, chemistry, and physics. Descriptions of original and significant results based on experiments and/or developments in theory are appropriate. Such results may be the outcome of studies that range from the molecular level to the systems level.
The scope of industrial activity that defines issues suitable for the journal is interpreted broadly to include biotechnology, chemicals, energy, food, forest products, materials, microelectronics, nanotechnology, and specialty chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Contributions addressing global issues such as water availability, energy utilization, and sustainable resources are especially welcome.[4]

Reporting on areas in chemical engineering including properties of materials, separations, reaction engineering, and the analysis, design, and control of chemical and physical processes. Areas in applied chemistry include organic and inorganic synthesis, polymer modification, structure determinations, degradation studies, and reaction mechanisms.[5]
